Role Purpose: 

 

To provide management of Plant Engineering for all Diversified Solutions (DS) Plants, which includes Technical Foam, Flexible Foam and Lamination, Engineered Composites and Formed Plastics.  This management includes arranging and providing technical support to all DS plant engineers, for mechanical and electrical engineering.  It also includes the training and guidance for these plant engineering teams.  Project management to develop plant project scenarios and proposals to accommodate new business opportunities will also occasionally be needed.  Develop modernization plans for capital expenditure to update our DS plants along with total productive maintenance solutions to maintain them.  Develop and build relationships with OEM supplier of equipment in order to align with future plans in each of the facilities. To be available for travelling and being on multiple sites as Plant Engineering Leader. 

 

Note - this position will be based out of Chattanooga, TN or Greensboro, NC.

 

Responsibilities:
 

Plant Engineering:

  • Provide mentorship to plant engineers and their respective teams and coordinate support as necessary
  • Help to train / mentor plant engineering teammates in their positions
  • Be a driver of Safety and set examples of good solid practices
  • Collect and consolidate plant maintenance/engineering department performance and report up to Operation Leader bi-weekly
  • Responsible for effective plant engineering teams and support to all plants
  • Be the driver of working safely and promote the culture of safety, RADAR on plant visits
  • Dotted line reporting from all Slab plant engineering teammates. Facilitate communications between various plant engineering teams. (Nodal meetings, downtime reviews, intercommunications)
  • Be the liason between global engineering and manufacturing sites.
  • Lead and help plant engineering meet all the engineering WOL standards.

 

Technical Support:

  • Support plants in the capacity of machine related support issues and process improvements
  • Provide support to our process group in both wet and dry end technologies
  • Be the driver of continuous improvement ideas and projects
  • Liaison between Corporate and Plant locations on technical matters.
  • Help teams to develop procedures, policies, standards and best methods and follow-up on implementation of new technologies and push to reach engineering goals (KPI's).
  • Work to bring best practices across the various plants.

 

Capital Projects:

  • Assist plants in developing annual capital equipment budgets  
  • Collect, compile, and report progress on plant capital equipment projects
  • Responsible for in depth review of capital projects, cost tracking and reporting to senior managers monthly
  • Provide support for new business opportunities
  • Provide project management and technical expertise for large projects and various business development ideas (new major equipment, plants, substantial upgrades)


Equipment Supplier Development and Utilization

  • Be a driver of technology and promote best methods for machine processes and work with our partners such as (Baumer, Hennecke, Opus, Meyer, MPI and many others) to help us to achieve our strategic objectives;
  • Work with major suppliers to specify equipment and facilitate capital purchases.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Technical degree (Mechanical Engineering/Technical Engineering) with thorough knowledge of equipment, and slab foam manufacturing environment including solid knowledge of urethane processing systems including chemical storage, metering, foaming, storage, cutting, fabrication, and lamination technologies is a plus.  
  • Background related to general engineering, strong communication and demonstrable organizational and leadership skills, coupled with a minimum of 5-8 years progressive experience including at least 3 years at a managerial level as well as slab experience or equivalent.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate supervisory/managerial skill including planning, leading, delegation, cost center management including, cost reduction plans and customer quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of Labor Relations and Health, Safety, Environmental and Employment Legislation.
  • Good Oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Travel will be required.
